Director/Assistant Dean, Law Library & Technology Center, and Assistant/Associate Professor of Law The Shepard Broad Law Center of Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL seeks applicants for its Director/Assistant Dean of the Law Library & Technology Center, and Assistant/Associate Professor of Law. The NSU Law Library & Technology Center has always prided itself on the staff’s rapid response to the information needs of patrons from the Law Center, University, Alumni Association, and the local practicing Bar. The library has received national recognition for both its technology and library services. An innovative and energetic individual is needed to continue guiding the information and technology services of the Law Center which include overseeing budgeting, personnel management, collection development, legal research and technology instruction, facilities maintenance, short and long term planning, web services, audio visual services and computer services. The library is housed in a 43,000 square-foot space. The director supervises 24 staff, provides information and technology services to 950 law students and 60 law faculty, and maintains an electronic, micro-format, and print collection of over 330,000 volumes. In addition, the position also provides information services to three non-J.D. programs in Education, Health, and Employment. The library also provides information services support to our foreign programs. In addition to its administrative responsibilities, the position is faculty tenure/tenure-track and carries the responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and service. Required: Both a J.D. and an M.L.S. from accredited institutions as well as substantial law library administrative experience are required as is the ability to effectively communicate and work closely with Law Center departments, faculty and students as well as University personnel. Familiarity with technology is essential and experience managing technology is preferred. Additional duties include managing the court library in the James Lawrence King Building, Miami, Florida. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop, coordinate, maintain, and deploy electronic services and digital collections for research and reference. Manage technical issues associated with electronic resources and coordinate efforts with the acquisitions and reference librarians. Coordinate the promotion of electronic resources and the continued development of current awareness services. Responsible for electronic resources training and the development of supporting materials for library staff and other users. Provide back up support for the administration of the library’s internal website and electronic newsletter. Manage one of two branch libraries located in Miami, provide print and electronic resources for judges and their staffs and other court personnel located primarily in the James Lawrence King Building, Miami. Travel within the Southern District of Florida and Eleventh Circuit as needed. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.L.S. degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school, two years of library experience including at least one year equivalent to work at CL 25 level. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Progressively responsible experience that provided an opportunity to acquire a thorough knowledge of the basic concepts, principles, policies, and theories of library management in general and electronic resource programs in particular. Although law library experience is preferable, other library experience is acceptable. The following two positions are available with Florida International University School of Law. Posted December 17, 2008. Florida International University is a diverse research university serving more than 38,000 students. Its College of Law, authorized by the Florida Legislature in 2000, opened its doors to its Inaugural Class in 2002. The law school was provisionally approved by the American Bar Association in 2004 and fully approved in 2006, the shortest possible time for attaining full accreditation. It is presently a candidate for membership in the Association of American Law Schools. Associate Dean for Information Resources The College of Law is seeking an Associate Dean for Information Resources, with primary responsibilities for the Law Library. The Associate Dean will have significant responsibility for the development of the collection, for the hiring and supervision of professional, technical, and support staff, and for the management of the information resources of the law library. The Associate Dean may also play an instructional role in the legal research curriculum of the College of Law and, depending upon qualification, in other curricular offerings. Substantial experience as director of an academic law library is preferred. Candidates, in addition to holding a J.D. and a degree in library sciences, should have the credentials for a tenured or tenure-track appointment, which would include significant professional accomplishments and some publications.
